This level of protection helps prevent the spread of fire through a building and aid evacuation. This type of partitioning offers what is known as passive fire protection. This means it is able to continue functioning as it was designed when exposed to fire. It is critical that all aspects of any fire-rated partition, function as they should from the glass itself to how it is fixed. The second 60 refers to insulation against the heat generated during a fire and how it can keep that at bay for 60 minutes.
